DAILY CANAKKALE TOUR FROM BURSA ITINERARY:

We shall start our Canakkale (anzac) tour including Gallipoli and Anzac Memorials Early Start to Ancient City of TROY, famous with the legendary TROJAN HORSE from the times of Beautiful Helen the Queen of Sparta and Paris, Trojan Prince. Ferry across DARDANELLES and LUNCH AT ÇANAKKALE. Visit to GALLIPOLI, famous battlefield, Anzac Cove, war Cemeteries (Beach Cemetery, Quinns Post, The Nek) and the ANZAC MEMORIALS (Lone Pine - Australian Memorial, Conk Bair - New Zealand Memorial, Hellespont – English Memorial) of the naval battle (18 march 1915) during the world war 1.

TROY: Ancient Greek historians placed the Trojan War variously in our 12th, 13th, or 14th century BC: Eratosthenes to 1184 BC, Herodotus to 1250 BC, Duris of Samos to 1334 BC. Modern archaeologists associate Homeric Troy with archaeological Troy VII. In the Iliad, the Achaeans set up their camp near the mouth of the river Scamander (presumably modern Karamenderes), where they had beached their ships. The city of Troy itself stood on a hill, across the plain of Scamander, where the battles of the Trojan War took place. The site of the ancient city is some 5 km from the coast today, but the ancient mouths of alleged Scamander, some 3, 000 years ago, were about that distance inland, pouring into a large bay which formed a natural harbour that has since been filled with alluvial material. Recent geological findings have permitted the reconstruction of how the original Trojan coastline would have looked, and the results largely confirm the accuracy of the Homeric geography of Troy.

TROJAN HORSE: The Trojan Horse is a tale from the Trojan War. The events in this story from the Bronze Age took place after Homer's Iliad, and before his Odyssey. It was the stratagem that allowed the Greeks finally to enter the city of Troy and end the conflict. In one version, after a fruitless 10-year siege, the Greeks constructed a huge wooden horse, and hid a select force of 30 men inside. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the horse into their city as a victory trophy. That night the Greek force crept out of the horse and opened the gates for the rest of the Greek army, which had sailed back under cover of night. The Greek army entered and destroyed the city of Troy, decisively ending the war.

DARDANELLES: The Dardanelles formerly known as the Hellespont is a narrow strait in northwestern Turkey connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara. It is one of the Turkish Straits, along with its counterpart the Bosphorus. The strait is 61 kilometers (38 mi) long but only 1.2 to 6 kilometers (0.75 to 4 mi) wide, averaging 55 meters (180 ft) deep with a maximum depth of 82 meters (300 ft). Water flows in both directions along the strait, from the Sea of Marmara to the Aegean via a surface current and in the opposite direction via an under current. Like the Bosphorus, it separates Europe (the Gallipoli peninsula) from the mainland of Asia. The strait is an international waterway, and together with the Bosphorus, the Dardanelles connects the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea. A suspension bridge project has been planned; connecting Saricay (a district of Canakkale) on the Asian side to Kilitbahir on the European side. At this point, the strait is narrowest

GALLIPOLI: The Gallipoli peninsula is located in the European part of Turkey, with the Aegean Sea to the west and the Dardanelles straits to the east. The Allied landing and subsequent campaign on the peninsula during World War I is usually known in Britain as the Dardanelles Campaign and in Turkey as the Battle of Canakkale. In Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Newfoundland and Labrador, the terms Gallipoli Campaign or just Gallipoli alone are used to describe the eight month campaign.
