Optional Tour 2: Cape Sounion
Duration: Half Day
Decription:
We depart Athens for a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which
affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf. We pass through some of Athens'
most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varzika) on our way to Cape
Sounion where you will visit the 5th century B.C. temple of Poseidon.
Witness one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world. On a clear
day, you can see at least seven islands. The Doric columns of local marble have
16 flutings instead of the usual 20. The precipice is a sheer 197 foot drop to
the sea.

Optional Tour 3: Ancient Corinth
Duration: 4 hours
Decription:
Leave Athens and drive South West until we reach the Corinth Canal which
connects the Aegean Sea with the Ionian Sea (short stop). Drive on to visit the
Ancient Town of Corinth where St. Paul lived and preached for two years. The
remains of the city, which include the Agora (market place) and Apollo's Temple
(6th century B.C.) clearly show how rich and important Corinth was in Ancient
Times. A short stop at the Site of the Ancient Port of Cehries, where St. Paul
disembarked, will conclude the visit.
Return to Athens.

Optional Tour 4: Athens thru the Lens - Ancient Footsteps
Duration: 4 hours
Decription:
On this tour you will follow the footsteps of everyday people and their cultures
through the centuries. We will stroll by small white-washed houses built amidst
the rocks beneath the gaze of the Acropolis. The narrow meandering steep streets
and steps, stone walls and gardens filled with flowers give the impression of
being on a Greek island. You will see the tower of the winds, a weather vane, a
sundial, and a hydraulic clock housed in an octagonal tower built by the
astronomer Andronicus, the Roman Agora, the remains of Hadrian's Library built
in 132 AD seen at a distance, and Fethiye Djami - Mosque of the conqueror,
considered one of the oldest and finest Ottoman monuments in Athens. You will
learn how to work with light and shadows, color and forms in a creative way, how
to use photographic techniques to advantage and how to be ready to take great
photos any time you go out with your camera.

Optional Tour 5: Markets, Ruins and Ancient Athens
Duration: 2.5-3 hours
Decription:
Explore Athens from top to bottom. Wander through flea markets, window-shop for
leather goods and handmade icons and explore the city's rich ancient past. See
Agora where merchants bargained in Greek and Roman times, wander past the 17th
and 18th century houses of Thisson and finish at the mighty Acropolis.
Meet your local guide at Ktozia Square, then head to the Mayor of Athens'
neo-classical building on Athina Street, one of the busiest in Athens. Starting
at 9 am when the city's shops and markets are bustling with Athenians, ready for
a day of business just as they have done for the past 2,000 years. You will
experience the spirit again of the Greek life with the same commerce of food
that existed thousands of years before. Dive into the Athenian way of life as
your guide takes you through the markets. Here you will find every Mediterranean
fruit, vegetable, meat, cheese and fresh on offer. Filled with all these warm
colours, tastes, and smells, the next stop is Monastiraki Square. The name of
the square derives from the Greek word for monastery, in fact in the center of
the square sits the Pantanassa monastery. Not far away is the 18th century
Tzistarakis mosque, now a ceramics museum. The square is also home to the Adrian
library, an archaic temple constructed in the Corinthian-style. Explore the
square's flea market, mingle with merchants and see ancient monuments. Explore
Ifaistou or Pandrossos Streets to discover shops selling all kind of specialties
such as leather sandals, hand made icons, Greek music instruments and
antiquities. The next stop is the ancient Agora, where merchants were trading in
Greek and Roman times. Walk through the area to Thisson passing houses from the
17th and the 18th century along the way. Thission used to be a forgotten
neighborhood of Athens but in the past 10 years it has been completely
renovated, with many pedestrian streets, and restored houses. The final stop is
the mighty Acropolis. Walking around the site learn about the history, and the
myths, for each temple. See the Athina Nike, the Caryatides and the Parthenon,
constructed in the Golden Age of Athens under Pericles. The adventure ends here
where you are free to continue on your own personal exploration or the guide can
give you advice on the best way to get back to your hotel.
