The best place to enjoy the much anticipated Chilean sunset is in the Salt Mountain range, the location of the Mars and Moon valleys. The valleys contain a variety of stones, sand-like formations - a result of water and wind. As the sun sinks below the horizon, experience the wonder of the area and its close resemblance to the moon. In the evening, one of the most expected moments is the sunset and the best place to appreciate it is the mountain range of the Salt, with its Mars and Moon Valleys that are saline and sacrilegious conformations product of the mineralogical folding that have taken place for one hundred million years and that originated small mountains of capricious and sculptural forms that at sunset resemble a Lunar landscape.
On this occasion, we’ll visit the great Salar de Atacama in Los Flamencos National Reserve where you can enjoy its immensity surrounded by fauna in the Chaxa lagoon and surroundings between the flamingos that prove to be the main attraction of the salt with their beauty. Then we will take the road to the Highlands to visit the lagoons Miscanti and Miñiques at 4,200 meters above the sea level at the base of the volcanoes of the cordillera of the Andes, through its paths we will delight us with the nature of a landscape of contrasts. We will then enjoy lunch in the town of Socaire village highlighted for its traditional cuisine. Finally, before returning, we will visit the town of Toconao, its bell tower and Church of San Lucas, both national monuments since 1951.
Discover one of the highest-elevation geyser fields in the world! Watch all around you as over 100 geysers huff and puff, spewing explosive streams of water and gas into the frigid air. The El Tatio Geyser Field stands just over 14,000 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains of northern Chile and getting there is half the fun. You’ll travel up windy scenic mountain roads surrounded by snow covered active and dormant volcanic peaks along the way. Magma beneath the surface acts to heat an underground source of water resulting in an explosive release of pressure. As you walk through the fields, steam rising all around, the ethereal environment will have you feeling like you’re on another planet. The local animal life of the geyser field are awe-inspiring as well, demonstrating that beauty can thrive even in such harsh conditions. Geyser field run off empties into emerald green, geothermal ponds and small streams that trickle down toward lower altitudes. A trip to the third largest geyser field in the world is an experience you won’t soon forget! Shared transfer to the airport in Calama. Flight to Santiago. Arrival. Transfer to the hotel.
