You’ll be invited into the homes of these tranquil, kind-hearted people for a rare insight into the culture of time-locked Myanmar. Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar has only recently opened it’s doors to visitors. Enjoying afternoon tea with a Shan family is like stepping back in time to an ancient world. You’ll also visit the royal monuments and impressive emerald Buddha in Bangkok, meet the monks of peaceful Chiang Mai, interact with the elephants of the Chiang Dao rain forests, marvel at Bagan’s dozens of deserted ancient temples, and relax at the stunning hotels and resorts on the pristine beaches of southern Thailand...
Welcome to Myanmar! Upon arrival, your Travel Myanmar guide will await you at the International Yangon Airport. You will then be escorted to your hotel in the city center. Begin your first Myanmar visit to Shwedagon Pagoda – the most prominent monument in Yangon, which dominates the sky with a golden flash, giant spires and holy relics. Your highlight for this evening is a dinner in Karaweik Palace, overlooking to the Royal Lake and Shwedagon Tower. Dinner will consist of fine Burmese food and an amazing cultural show. Travel from Yangon to Bagan and start your day with a visit to Shwezigone Pagoda, which is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha. After, we’ll visit Ananda Sulamani Temples. The afternoon will consist of a visit to the Bagan Archaeological Museum and learn the traditional way local people make Bagan’s famous lacquer wares. We’ll end our day by enjoying a beautiful sunset cruise on Ayeyarwaddy River. Meals: Breakfast - Accommodation: Hotel in Bagan
After breakfast, start your day by visiting Minkaba Gubyaukyi Temple; take note of the architectural differences between MyaZedi Pagoda and the Manuha Temple. This afternoon, enjoy an exotic horse cart ride to one of the largest temples in Bagan: Nan Paya Pagoda along with many other interesting sites nearby. The highlight of today is the panoramic sunset view from the second highest pagoda in Bagan, the ShweSandaw Pagoda. Meals: Breakfast - Accommodation: Hotel in Bagan
Known as the hub of Buddhism, Mandalay is a realm of stupas, monks and monasteries. The most fascinating and intriguing part of the day will be the time studying the monks during their worship and meals. Drive to Mandalay pier to embark on a private boat upstream to visit Mingun, famed for its huge and incomplete Pahtodawgyi Pagoda and Mingun Bell, the 90-ton ringing bell (second largest in the world). In the afternoon, visit Mandalay Palace, Shwenandaw Monastery - noted for its exquisite woodcarvings and gold leaf beating workshop, Kuthodaw Pagoda - known as the world’s biggest book and finish the tour by visiting Mandalay Hill to watch the sunset and a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Leave the city for Sagaing Hill where you will learn about the schooling of monks, visit Budda Cave, Uminthonze Pagoda, Sunooponnyashin Pagoda and finally take in the panoramic view of Mandalay. Afternoon, we take the flight to Bangkok. Your driver and guide will welcome you at the airport and take you to the hotel for check in. Free and relax. After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will pick you up and take you to a Harbor on Chao Phraya River to get on a boat to explore the traditional Thai klongs (canals) and see the still-active waterborne life of the Nonthaburi residents. Then, visit Wat Arun which is known as Temple of Dawn – one of the best well-known sites in Bangkok. It is best seen from the opposite side of the river. After visiting this Wat, you head to the Grand Palace which is the official of King Siam since 1782 made up of numerous buildings, halls, pavilions set around open lawns, gardens and courtyards. It is located on the bank of Chao Phraya River. Inside the Grand Palace complex is Wat Phra Kaeo or Temple of the Emerald Buddha – the most beautiful and sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. The following visit is Wat Pho – the temple of reclining Buddha. The temple has a long list of credits: The oldest and largest temple in Bangkok, the longest reclining Buddha and the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, the first public education institution. Next, drive to Pak Klong Talaat Flower market to see Thailand’s exotic flora with many species of orchids. Back to your hotel. Meals: Breakfast - Accommodation: Hotel in Bangkok
We leave Bangkok for Chiang Mai. Upon arrival in Chiang Mai then drive through different parts of the city, passing old city walls, gates and city moat, markets, residential areas, foreign consulates, government buildings and Tapae, Chiang Mai’s main street. Drive up Doi (Mount) Suthep to visit Wat Phrathad Doi Suthep built in 1383 on Doi Suthep (3500 feet above sea – level), is the symbol of Chiang Mai. It is the most sacred temple in the city and contains the holy relic of the Lord Buddha which is enshrined in the magnificent golden pagoda with a challenging flight of over 300 steps, flanked by enormous mythological Nagas. A panoramic view of the city and the surrounding countryside can be seen from the temple grounds. Meals: Breakfast - Accommodation: Hotel in Chiang Mai
After breakfast, head out on an excursion to visit an elephant working site located at Ta Yaak Village, Chiang Dao District, approximately 70 km from Chiang Mai. The elephant working camp on the banks of the Mae Ping River and surrounded by rocky hills is where you can see the elephants take a bath in river, drag and push logs. An interesting demonstration of how trained elephants are used as work animals in the teak forests of Thailand around 10.00am. Next, enjoy an exciting trek on an elephant back around camp through the jungle and along the river. Afterwards, board bamboo rafts along a very picturesque stretch of the Mea Ping River to see the beautiful scenery down the river. The rafting lasts about an hour but depends on the depth of the water and the speed of the current. Drive to Mae Sa to visit an Orchid Nursery & Butterfly Farm. Lunch is at a local restaurant. After breakfast, we leave Chiang Mai for Phuket. On arrival, be picked up to your hotel for relaxing. Meals: Breakfast - Accommodation: Hotel in Phuket
